Prior licensing
---------------
Every release up to and including v5.18.1 was published under the MIT
License, preserved verbatim in LICENSE-MIT. That grant is irrevocable: anyone
who received those versions keeps their MIT rights to them, and the
contributions made under it remain available on those terms.

The relicensing relies on the MIT License's own permission to sublicense, so
the earlier contributions are redistributed here under Apache-2.0 with the
original MIT notice retained. Contributions made from this release onward are
licensed under Apache-2.0 per section 5 of that licence.

Android companion app: GPL-3.0 binary
-------------------------------------
The Android build of the Talon companion app (apps/companion) includes an
on-device neural text-to-speech voice. That voice runs on sherpa-onnx, whose
Android library statically links espeak-ng, which is licensed under the GNU
General Public License, version 3. The Android companion APK is therefore a
combined work that is distributed under the terms of the GPL-3.0
(https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html).

The complete corresponding source code for that APK is this repository
(https://github.com/thefalconry/talon), together with the upstream sources of
the third-party components listed below at the pinned versions. Talon's own
source files remain licensed under Apache-2.0, which is compatible with
distribution as part of a GPL-3.0 combined work. Builds of the companion for
other platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS) do not include sherpa-onnx or
espeak-ng and are not affected.

Upstream plans to remove the espeak-ng dependency in sherpa-onnx 2.0
(https://github.com/k2-fsa/sherpa-onnx/issues/3731); this section will be
revisited when the companion moves to such a release.
