TECHCORP ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW — 2024
Employee: Rachel Torres
Title: Senior Data Scientist
Department: Data & Analytics
Manager: Wei Zhang (Director of Data Science)
Review Period: January 2024 – December 2024

OVERALL RATING: Exceeds Expectations (4/5)

PERFORMANCE SUMMARY:
Rachel has had an exceptional year, delivering high-impact work across both research and production. Her ML-based anomaly detection pipeline (co-developed with Sarah Chen in Platform) is now in production, catching 94% of billing anomalies that previously required manual review. She also led the data science hiring committee, improving our offer acceptance rate from 55% to 78%.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Built and deployed anomaly detection pipeline: saving estimated $2.1M annually in billing errors
- Patent pending on the adaptive threshold algorithm (filing #2024-TC-0847)
- Published internal research paper on LLM-assisted data quality, adopted by 3 product teams
- Led hiring: 4 offers extended, 3 accepted (including a senior hire from Google)

AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT:
- Should develop more expertise in data engineering; current work relies heavily on platform team for pipeline infrastructure
- Presentation skills at executive level could be stronger (tendency to over-detail)

COMPENSATION:
Current: $175,000 base + $35,000 equity (annual vest)
Recommended adjustment: $195,000 base + $50,000 equity refresh
Retention bonus: $40,000 (approved, to be paid Q1 2025)

MANAGER NOTES (CONFIDENTIAL):
Rachel is one of our strongest ICs and critical to the data org's roadmap. The retention bonus was approved after she disclosed a recruiter outreach from OpenAI offering ~$300K+ total comp. I believe she's committed for now but we need to ensure she sees a clear path to Staff Data Scientist. The patent work and cross-team impact make a strong case. Also note: Rachel has privately asked about parental leave policies — likely planning for late 2025. This is strictly confidential and must not factor into any compensation or promotion decisions.
