Four ways to fold a turn's surfacing down to a line or two, and a setting for when it happens on its own. Each turn below starts minimised and is the real spec-preview turn underneath. Press the chevron at the right of the head to expand it and again to minimise, or press h once the turn has focus.
What all four share. Minimising hides the pins, card, strip, axis and summary. The head and the step log stay, so a minimised turn is today's turn block plus a little. Two things never hide: an open Ask joins the head as ? #24, and 13 unread stays. Both expand the turn and open their message, and so does anything else that opens one: a citation, u, a deep link. Each turn remembers its own state in the browser.

Auto
The live turn and the newest settled turn open expanded. An older turn opens minimised once everything in it is read and no Ask is open. In the transcript above, the first turn is read and folds, while the second still has unread messages and stays open.
Minimised
Every settled turn opens minimised. Only the live turn opens expanded.
Your choice wins
Once you expand or minimise a turn by hand, it stays that way, whatever the setting.
